SUSAN KING grew up in Toronto and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Mount Allison University, and a Masters of Fine Arts degree from York University. After graduation, King opened XOX Artist’s Postcards, a retail store in Kensington Market devoted to selling art postcards designed by both Canadian and international artists. By 1981, King was commissioning, publishing and distributing her own line of artists’ postcards through the store. From 1990 to 1997 Susan taught photography at The University of Toronto on Sheridan College’s campus. Since 1983 King worked as a freelance, editorial photographer for numerous Canadian and International publications. In addition to her freelance photojournalism work, Susan has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in galleries throughout Canada, as well as internationally in New York City, Philadelphia, Duluth, Krakow, Poland, San Juan, and Merida. Her work has been included in the collections of the National Archives of Canada, the Art Bank, The Lynnwood Art Centre, the Portrait Gallery of Canada, and The Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography. All of King’s art and photographic works are in the collections of Media Commons, University of Toronto.

 

In 2015 King moved to Lion’s Head, Ontario, Canada. She continues (in no particular order) to make art, draw, dream, hike, cycle, x-country ski, photograph, build furniture, garden, read, do yoga and ecstatic dance, meditate and make posters for the environment group in town and is very involved in the Lion’s Head community.
